The St. Louis YWCA’s Committee on Administration (COA) was created in 1911 to manage the day-to-day operations of the Phyllis Wheatley Branch.
The COA provided direction, guidance and stewardship. In its earliest days, during the time of segregation, the COA’s fierce determination kept the branch afloat. They planned fundraisers and sponsored activities that raised necessary funds to support programs and initiatives for African-American women and girls, which helped move the Phyllis Wheatley Branch from surviving to thriving.
Today, YWCA has the only intact Committee on Administration in the country. We are proud, honored and grateful that our COA continues to champion YWCA projects and programs.
