Historically Speaking: Preserving Black Neighborhhoods

The Smithsonian’s Center for the Digitization and Curation of African American History is coming to St. Louis for their 2024 Community Curation Program! Throughout September, they will collaborate with community partners in St. Louis and East St. Louis, creating engaging programs and digitizing materials for local institutions, organizations, and community members.

Join us at the Historic Phyllis Wheatley Heritage Center for Historically Speaking: Preserving Historic Black Neighborhoods. This event will educate the community on the preservation efforts of historic Black neighborhoods as part of a recurring series addressing significant events affecting the African American community. The programs feature experts from diverse fields and are often moderated by esteemed journalists and cultural critics. The series also highlights authors of contemporary and historical fiction and nonfiction works. The event will be moderated by Michelle Commander, Deputy Director, National Museum of African American History.
