Monday, October 2, 2023 / St. Louis, Missouri – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and YWCA Metro St. Louis proudly reaffirms its commitment to empowering survivors domestic violence.
As the largest provider of domestic violence and sexual assault services in the region, YWCA Metro St. Louis plays a central role in supporting survivors and advocating for change in our community.
YWCA Metro St. Louis is not just a service provider; it is a beacon of hope for those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. With a steadfast dedication to its mission of empowering women and eliminating racism, YWCA is the only dual-services agency (domestic violence and sexual assault) in the St. Louis region, offering comprehensive support to survivors in their time of need.
YWCA Metro St. Louis is also the largest provider of rapid re-housing services for survivors in St. Louis City and County. These crucial services provide women and their families with safe and stable housing, a fundamental step toward rebuilding their lives after experiencing trauma.
To commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month and attract other advocates for change, YWCA Metro St. Louis invites the community to join us for an inspiring event:
Advocates & Allies: Community Response & Vigil for Domestic Violence
Date: Wednesday, October 18
Time: 5:30 – 7:00pm
Location: The Wheel at St. Louis Union Station
This event will serve as an opportunity for our community to stand in solidarity with domestic violence survivors. We will come together with local partners, law enforcement, and YWCA staff to address the harsh realities of domestic violence and explore ways we can work collaboratively to support survivors as advocates and allies.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced have some of physical violence by an intimate partner. It affects individuals and families from all walks of life, and it is our collective responsibility to end it.
